| Peacocks
at Castle Blair, central Highlands. For no particular reason,
most of the castles we visited had peacocks. Peacocks are actually
native to southeastern Asia and Malaysia, but their brilliant
plumage brought them to courts in China, the Middle East, Rome,
and Europe. They also were considered a banquet bird until the
American turkey was introduced in Europe in the 16th century. © 2004
