Scotland 2004: Castle Glamis, St. Andrews and Dundee  |  Image: 16 of 35 Image Next

Castle Glamis as seen from the Italian Garden. This perspective makes it look much more like the Bavarian-style castles you see at Disneyland, though the Union Jack at the top isn't very Disneyland-like. Castle Glamis is also linked to Macbeth. The play is set here, and in the play King Duncan is killed in Duncan Hall, one of the oldest parts of the castle. In real life, Duncan was mortally wounded near Elgin, and died at Glamis. But that didn't prevent Glamis Castle from holding an outdoor performance of Macbeth on Aug. 18, three days later. © 2004 Lawrence I. Charters
