Closeup of Patrick the Palm. Patrick is a Neanthe bella palm tree (Chamaedorea elegans bella), native to Guatemala. We don't know if his ancestors were legal immigrants, but Patrick was born in the US. He normally resides in a dormitory in College Park, MD, but has been on vacation for several months in Columbia, MD. He doesn't like the sun that much, but decided to go outside for a few minutes to commune with his fellow vegetables. Sadly, the azaleas speak with a strong East Coast accent, and the tulips seem to have a Dutch accent, and Patrick's California English with Japanese intonations (don't ask) just didn't mix well. Patrick may be learning Old English in the near future... (© 2006 Lawence I. Charters)
