Amsterdam Central Station (seen here from across a canal located in front of the station) is a very busy train station literally minutes from Schiphol Airport. The harbor of Amsterdam is at the back of the station, and there are canals on the sides, too. In fact, you can't help but notice there is a lot of water in Amsterdam. This inspired several people to tell the same joke: "If you sent the Irish to the Netherlands and the Dutch to Ireland, within five years Ireland would be feeding Europe, and the Irish will have all drowned." The Irish don't find this all that amusing. Scanned from a photographic print. © 1997 Lawrence I. Charters
